Parents - Overview

Overview

Parents work in partnership with teachers and their child to provide, support and nurture a learning environment at home, in the community and at the Learning Centre:

Parent roles and responsibilities include:

  • Communicate regularly with your teacher, once every two weeks
  • Be actively involved
  • Create appropriate learning environment in the home
  • Ensure that teachers are provided with sufficient student work for assessment and evaluation purposes
  • Ensure that a learning plan is completed for each student in the family
  • Attend portfolio conferences 3 times a year
  • Complete Parent Observation forms during Math Check in week, mid way each term

A Communications Liaison parent role helps bridge the gap between new parents and returning parents, as well as to help answer any simple questions that might arise during the school year. This role has helped to build friendships and a strong sense of community at the Learning Centre.
